Frequently Asked Questions
Everything you need to know about using LabSense AI to understand your lab results.
💬General
What is LabSense AI?
LabSense AI is a free, AI-powered laboratory result interpretation tool. You enter your lab test values — or upload a PDF/image of your report — and our AI explains what each result means, whether it is normal or abnormal, and what steps you might consider. It is designed for patients, students, and healthcare workers globally.
Is LabSense AI free to use?
Yes, LabSense AI is completely free. There is no registration, no subscription, and no hidden fees. We are supported by non-intrusive advertising. You can interpret as many lab results as you need.
Who created LabSense AI?
LabSense AI was created by Dr. Naeem Mahmood Ashraf, PhD (Biochemistry & Biotechnology), with 45+ peer-reviewed publications and an h-index of 10. The platform follows WHO, IFCC, and AACC reference standards and is designed specifically for a global audience including South Asian users.
Which lab tests can LabSense AI interpret?
LabSense AI currently supports 86+ tests across 7 categories: Hematology (CBC, ESR, CRP, coagulation), Biochemistry (liver, kidney, metabolic, lipids, cardiac), Endocrinology (thyroid, reproductive, adrenal hormones), Vitamins & Minerals (Vitamin D, B12, iron studies, calcium), Immunology (ANA, RF, Anti-CCP, immunoglobulins), Infectious Disease (hepatitis, HIV, dengue, malaria, typhoid), and Urinalysis. More tests are added regularly.
Do I need to create an account?
No. LabSense AI requires no account, no registration, and no login. Simply visit the Interpreter page, enter your values, and get your results instantly. This also means no personal data is ever stored on our servers.
🎯Accuracy
How accurate is the AI interpretation?
LabSense AI uses an advanced AI engine — one of the most capable available — combined with our curated WHO/IFCC reference range database. The interpretations are clinically informed and accurate for general guidance. However, no AI system is a substitute for a qualified clinician who knows your full medical history, symptoms, and other test results.
Can LabSense AI diagnose conditions?
No. LabSense AI provides educational interpretation only — it explains what your numbers mean and what conditions they may suggest, but it does not diagnose. Phrases like "may suggest" or "discuss with your doctor" are intentional. A formal diagnosis requires clinical evaluation by a licensed healthcare professional.
Why are some reference ranges different from my lab report?
Reference ranges can vary between laboratories due to differences in equipment, reagents, patient populations, and analytical methods. LabSense AI uses WHO/IFCC consensus ranges, which are general guidelines. Always compare your result to the reference range printed on your own lab report, as that range is specific to the laboratory and method used.
What do "Normal", "Borderline", "Abnormal", and "Critical" mean?
Normal means the value falls within the expected reference range for your age and sex. Borderline means the value is slightly outside the range — worth monitoring but not necessarily concerning. Abnormal (Low or High) means the value is clearly outside the reference range and warrants clinical attention. Critical means the value is dangerously far outside range and requires immediate medical evaluation.
🔒Privacy
Are my lab results private and secure?
Yes. LabSense AI does not store your lab values, patient information, or interpretation results. Each request is processed in real-time and discarded immediately after the response is returned. We never sell, share, or retain your health data. We comply with GDPR principles.
Is my data sent to a third-party AI service?
Your lab values and optional patient context (age, sex) are sent to our AI interpretation engine to generate the interpretation. The data is processed per our AI provider's terms of service and privacy policy. No personally identifiable information (name, ID numbers, contact details) is collected or transmitted by LabSense AI.
⚙️Technical
How does PDF upload work?
When you upload a PDF lab report, our system extracts the text using pdf-parse, then uses AI to identify and structure all test values, units, reference ranges, and patient details from the text. You review the extracted tests before sending for interpretation. If the PDF is scanned (image-only), please use the Image Upload tab instead.
How does image/photo upload work?
Image uploads go through a two-step pipeline: (1) Image preprocessing — greyscale, contrast enhancement, and resizing for optimal OCR quality; (2) OCR to extract text from the image. If OCR confidence is low, our AI Vision engine directly reads the image. You can also take a live photo on mobile using the camera button.
What units should I enter my results in?
Enter values in the unit shown on your lab report. When you select a test, LabSense AI shows all supported units for that test in a dropdown. Common conversions are handled automatically — for example, Vitamin D can be entered in ng/mL or nmol/L, and the AI will interpret it correctly based on the unit you select.
How do I enter qualitative results (Positive / Negative)?
For qualitative tests like HBsAg, HIV Ag/Ab, or Urine Protein, simply type "Positive", "Negative", "Reactive", or "Non-reactive" in the value field, or enter 1 for positive/reactive and 0 for negative/non-reactive. The AI understands both formats.
🩺Medical
What should I do if my results show critical values?
If LabSense AI flags a critical value (e.g. very low hemoglobin, very high potassium, critically low CD4 count), seek medical attention immediately — do not wait. Go to your nearest emergency room or call your doctor urgently. Critical values can represent life-threatening conditions that require immediate clinical evaluation and treatment.
Can LabSense AI replace my doctor?
Absolutely not. LabSense AI is an educational tool to help you understand your results — not a replacement for medical care. Your doctor has access to your full history, physical examination findings, and clinical judgment that no AI system can replicate. Always follow your doctor's advice and discuss any concerns with them.
Are reference ranges different for pregnant women or children?
Yes. LabSense AI uses age-group-specific and pregnancy-specific reference ranges where available. When you enter patient age and sex, the AI automatically applies the most relevant reference range. For pregnancy, adding a note like "pregnant, first trimester" in the clinical notes field will further improve accuracy.
